Combined Coronation/Investiture a Huge Success!

Under the auspices of Ill. Dale I. Goehrig, 33º, Sovereign Grand Inspector General in the Orient of Florida, on Saturday, November 12, 2011 The Orient of Florida held a combined Coronation and Investiture at the Tampa Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Tampa, Florida. This was the first attempt by the Orient of Florida to perform both of these important and impressive ceremonies on the same day and at the same location.

To say that the venture was a success would be an understatement. Hundreds of Scottish Rite Masons, their wives, families and guests converged on the Hyatt Hotel located in downtown Tampa, Florida; the headquarters for the days festivities.

The Coronation was conducted in an inspiring ceremony Saturday morning at the Tampa Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Eighteen Scottish Rite Masons from the State of Florida were coronated Thirty-third Degree Inspector General Honorary Masons.

In the afternoon at the same location, Thirty-eight Masters of the Royal Secret were invested with the Knight Commander Court of Honour.

That evening back at the Hyatt Hotel a banquet was held in honor of the new honorees. A huge crowd of honorees, their families and friends, guests and members of the fraternity filled the ballroom and enjoyed a delicious dinner.

In attendance at the banquet was Most Worshipful Jim Harris, Grand Master of Masons in Florida. Most Worshipful Harris was one of the honorees who was invested with the Knight Commander Court of Honor.

Donations to the Scottish Rite Foundation of Florida were presented to Ill. Dale I. Goehrig, 33º S.G.I.G. in the Orient of Florida totaling over thirty thousand dollars.

The keynote speaker, and honored guest of the evening was Ill. Ronald A. Seale, 33º, Sovereign Grand Commander of the Southern Jurisdiction of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. The Grand Commander gave an inspiring oration that held the audience in rapt attention as he explained to each of the honorees the reason that each of them were selected to receive their honors. Not because of what any one of them has accomplished or hope to accomplish but for who they are. He explained the cohesiveness and brotherhood that exists in the Scottish Rite and encouraged the same cohesiveness and brotherhood between all the bodies of Masonry.

All in all, it was a day and night to remember and I am sure that the memories of the events will remain fresh in the minds of all who were fortunate enough to attend the ceremonies and festivities.

Cooking From the Heart

Rebba Goehrig, the First Lady of the Scottish Rite in the Orient of Florida, has initiated an exciting project that promises to be a popular method of raising much needed funds for the Scottish Rite Foundation.

The ladies of the Orient of Florida have contributed their favorite recipes and a cook book has been published that is sure to be one of the most comprehensive books of this type ever published. The book is appropriately titled “Cooking From the Heart.” Four Hundred Seventy One recipes have been contributed covering the entire spectrum from appetizers, beverages and dips to Cookies, Candies and Miscellaneous. Also included are cooking and nutritional tips. The various types of food are indexed and alphabetized to facilitate easy access to a desired recipe.

The Scottish Rite Foundation of Florida will receive all profits from the sale of the books. The cost of the books is $20.00. This equates to a cost of 4.2 cents per recipe, a bargain that is difficult to beat!

Ill. Dale I. Goehrig, 33º Installed as Sovereign Grand Inspector General

Ill. Dale I. Goehrig, 33º has been elected and installed as the Sovereign Grand Inspector General in the Orient of Florida for the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite Masonry, Southern Jurisdiction. His election and installation took place on Sunday, August 21, 2011 in Washington D.C.Ill. Goehrig was appointed Deputy of the Supreme Council in 2010 following the death of Ill. Robert L. Goldsmith, 33º who had been SGIG in Florida for 20 years. Prior to his appointment as Deputy, Ill. Goehrig served the grand Lodge of Florida in many capacities culminating with his election in 2009 as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Florida.

Ill. Patrick C. Palmer, 33º has been named as Special Assistant to the SGIG in Florida.

College of the Consistory in Fort Myers

The College of the Consistory is coming to Southwest Florida. It is being started by Jim Hogg, who is a member of the Board of Adepts of the Guthrie, Oklahoma, College of the Consistory. Jim is also an Honorary Past Venerable Master of the Guthrie Lodge of Perfection and an Honorary Past Wise Master of the Guthrie Chapter of Rose Croix. He is a Perpetual member of both the Valley of Guthrie, Oklahoma, and the Valley of Lake Worth, Florida. He has also completed both master Craftsman programs offered through the Supreme Council. The Scottish Rite exists for YOU – the member. It is the institution for higher learning in Freemasonry and it is here for YOU.

Part of the new leadership initiative is an educational program. This program is meant to be both enlightening and FUN. It originates from and is a part of the Valley of Guthrie, Oklahoma. The Brothers in Guthrie have promised to aid and assist us in every way possible in getting this program off the ground here in Southwest Florida.
